Cherry Bar spent 20 years in AC/DC Lane before moving about 500 metres to Little Collins Street in 2019. A 2014 crowdfunding campaign raised $90,000 in three days to soundproof the old premises. Time Out calls it a long-running rock and roll dive bar, and Broadsheet a hub of the city's rock scene.
It holds 230 people and has live music and DJs on most nights. Listings disagree on closing times, from 02:00 on quieter nights to 04:00 or 05:00 on Friday and Saturday, so confirm before you go. Not for you if you want a quiet table: this is a loud, standing room.
