Old-town café-bar open since 1940 and known as the birthplace of Agua de Valencia, serving cocktails daily until 01:30.

Café Madrid has been open on Calle Abadía de San Martín, a few minutes from Plaza de la Reina, since 1940, and it is known as the birthplace of Agua de Valencia. For decades it was where the city's artists, writers and bohemians drank, and it still trades on that history, with a long cocktail and mixed-drinks list.

It opens every day from 12:00 to 01:30, and there is a small restaurant area with about 30 seats. It is now run by MYR Hotels. Order the Agua de Valencia here at least once, then compare it with Café de las Horas. Not for you if you want a late bar: it closes at 01:30, before most of the city goes out.
