Café de Pieter is a small, characteristic artists' pub at Sint Pieterstraat 22, away from the bustle of the Vrijthof. The tourist board describes a very mixed crowd and French chanson in the daytime; Lonely Planet adds eclectic art, a terrace beside a rampart wall and tap beers such as Tongerlo and Valkenburg.
Every Friday and Saturday night it hosts a dance evening with slightly different music each time, and it also has regular live performances. It opens at 12:00 and closes at 23:00 on Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and at 02:00 on Friday and Saturday. No entry fee or age limit is published. Not for you if you want a big dance floor: the room is small, and the dancing is part of a pub night.
