Berry and Rye is a speakeasy on Berry Street, at the top of Bold Street, and it does not make itself easy to find. The bar's own directions point you between Bunch and HK Hair Salon, to a door under a black awning. Inside it seats about 45 people and is known for whiskeys and Old Fashioneds.
It opens every day from 17:00, and blues, swing and jazz musicians play six nights a week, with a pianist every night except Saturday. Walk-ins are welcome when there is space, and you can reserve online, with limited bookings for groups of six or more. Not for you if you want to dance or talk loudly: it is small, low-lit and built around the music.
