Nishi-Shinjuku whisky bar on the third floor of a small building, with 300+ bottles of Japanese whisky and old films on the wall.

Zoetrope is a whisky bar on the third floor of Gaia Building No. 4 in Nishi-Shinjuku, with more than 300 bottles, some very rare, and a strong emphasis on Japanese whisky. Old films are sometimes projected on the wall. Look for the red sign on the third floor. The owner speaks English.

It opens at 17:00 and closes at 00:15, Monday to Saturday, and shuts on Sundays and national holidays. The cover charge is ¥600 (€3.40). Come in the early evening for the quietest room. Not for you if you want cocktails or a dance floor: the draw here is the whisky list and the calm.
