Akhnaton

Akhnaton sits on the Nieuwezijds Kolk, a short walk from Centraal Station. Catholic students founded it in 1953 as a café, hall and society, and it still runs as a foundation. The hall holds roughly 200 to 300 people, and the programme moves between jazz, funk, soul, Latin, African and electronic nights, plus ADE showcases in October.

There is no fixed weekly club schedule, so check the agenda before you go. The licence runs until 04:00 on most nights and 05:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. In spring and summer the terrace is open daily from noon. Not for you if you want a big room and a famous name on the bill: this is a small, foundation-run venue.
