Volunteer-run political cultural centre in a squatted former garage on Voorstraat: punk gigs, queer parties and cheap dance nights.
ACU is named after Auto Centrale Utrecht, the garage at Voorstraat 71 before the building was squatted in 1976. Today it calls itself a political cultural centre, run entirely by volunteers, with a bar, a vegan restaurant, DIY concerts, punk and hardcore gigs, benefit shows and party nights.
The parties are cheap: in October 2026 the queer night Neon Quatsch costs €5 and a Halloween dance night €8. The building is closed on Monday and opens Tuesday to Sunday around the programme. The bar asks for cash, so find an ATM before you arrive. Not for you if you want polish or a big sound system: this is a squat-born venue, and the programme is as political as it is musical.
Volunteer-run and easy-going; bring cash, as the bar asks for it.
