The 10 best clubs in Utrecht, ranked: BASIS, WAS., KABUL à GoGo, TivoliVredenburg and more, with entry prices, closing times, age rules and what each door wants.
The best clubs in Utrecht are fewer than you might expect in a city of more than 378,000 people, so it pays to know which nights are worth it. This list covers ten of them, from BASIS, the techno basement in a wharf cellar on the Oudegracht, to the warehouse rooms of KABUL à GoGo and WAS. in the Werkspoorkwartier, and the stages of TivoliVredenburg, EKKO and De Helling, which turn into clubs once the bands have finished.
For each one you get what we could verify: the entry price where it is published, the closing time, the age rule and one honest reason to skip it. The basics first. Most clubs open only on Friday and Saturday, doors open between 22:00 and midnight, and the nights finish between 04:00 and 07:00. Entry usually costs €8–23. Several doors are 21+ or 23+, and many venues take cards only.
We ranked the clubs on five things: sound, crowd, door, late licence and value. Sound means a room built for dancing rather than talking. Crowd means people who came for the music. Door means how predictable entry is and what each door asks of you, from age limits to dress. Late licence means how long the night runs. Value compares the price with what you get. Every club here appears with a 2026 programme or listing on its own site, Resident Advisor or Utrecht's event listings, and every price, time and address comes from those sources. We do not sell tickets ourselves.
A wharf cellar on the Oudegracht with a 360-degree DJ booth on the floor, a VOID sound system and house and techno every Friday and Saturday from 23:00 to 06:00. It is the one club in the centre you can count on every weekend. Skip it if you need room to move: when it is full, it feels like the cellar it is.
The former washing rooms of the Werkspoor factory, with the original tiles and taps on the walls, and house and techno nights such as Eris Drew b2b Octo Octa for Le Guess Who? on 7 November 2026, from 23:00 to 07:00. It runs on event dates, so each night feels like an occasion. Skip it if you are under 21 or out with a large group: the door turns both away.
A big club that opened in 2024 in the former Central Studios, with very high ceilings, rugs on the walls and several spaces, from the club rooms Abu and Zohal to the Teatro dance café. A Saturday club night runs from 22:00 to 05:00 across two rooms of house, techno and bass. Skip it if you will not leave the centre: it is a bike ride out.
Six halls stacked on the Vredenburg, from Club Nine for 175 people to Ronda for 2,000, with ON&ON for house, Jiggy for hip-hop and R&B and Pop-O-Matic for pop once the concerts are over. Park 6 and the Thursday student party Discozwemmen are free. Skip it if you want an underground room: it is a concert hall at heart.
A canal-house venue on the Bemuurde Weerd that turns 40 in 2026 and gave Four Tet, Beach House and Mitski early Dutch shows. After 23:00 it becomes a club: Diep In De Groef runs from 23:30 to 04:00 and costs €5.50 at the door, or nothing with a reservation before midnight. Skip it if you want a big production.
An independent stage at the head of Rotsoord with gigs early and club nights late, from Distortion Disco and Afrobeats NL to The Sun, a reggaeton and techno night at €15.50 that runs until 05:00. No other venue in the city changes its sound so often. Skip it if you want one style you can count on.
A café on the Janskerkhof that becomes a dance floor every Friday and Saturday from 23:00 to 04:00, with funky house, dance and club classics. The 23+ door gives it an older crowd than most student places in the centre. Skip it if you are under 23 or want anything underground.
One of only three venues the city's Nachtvisie 2030 counted as purely nightclubs, on Drieharingstraat in the centre, with DJ nights, live music and parties; house DJ Tim Hox played in September 2026. Le Guess Who? once called it a fixture in the life of every Utrecht student. Skip it if you want a weekly night you can plan around.
A volunteer-run political cultural centre in a garage squatted in 1976, with punk and hardcore gigs, a vegan kitchen and party nights such as the queer night Neon Quatsch at €5. It is the cheapest night out on this list. Skip it if you want polish or a serious sound system.
A club, stage, bar, restaurant, gallery and garden in one building on Nijverheidsweg, listed by Resident Advisor among Utrecht's most popular clubs, next to KABUL à GoGo and WAS. It suits a night that mixes art, food and dancing. Skip it if you want a dedicated club: it is an arts space first.
Utrecht's clubs fall into two groups, and a bike links them. In the Binnenstad, BASIS, Hofman, Club Poema, ACU, EKKO and TivoliVredenburg are all within walking distance of each other and of Utrecht Centraal. KABUL à GoGo, WAS. and NAR sit together in the Werkspoorkwartier, north-west of the centre, and De Helling is on its own in Rotsoord, to the south.
Pick one group per night. Start with a drink in the centre, at Olivier or on a wharf terrace by the Oudegracht, then walk to your club, or cycle out to the Werkspoorkwartier, where De Nijverheid's art café makes an easy first stop. Most people cycle home. Otherwise, U-OV night buses cost a flat €5, and NS night trains to Amsterdam leave Utrecht Centraal every hour.
Utrecht rewards a little planning. Check who is playing, buy early before the price steps up, bring a card and ID, and choose one part of town for the night. For prices, transport and how a night here runs hour by hour, read our full Utrecht nightlife guide. To choose an area before you choose a club, see Utrecht nightlife by neighbourhood. For ticketed nights and events, go to NightFind tickets. With a night train every hour, Amsterdam makes an easy second night, and Rotterdam has harbour clubs of its own.
For techno and house every weekend, BASIS, in a wharf cellar on the Oudegracht. For bigger bookings, WAS. and KABUL à GoGo in the Werkspoorkwartier.
Most club nights end at 04:00 or 05:00. BASIS runs until 06:00 on Friday and Saturday, with last entry at 04:00, and some WAS. nights go on until 07:00.
Usually €8–23. BASIS is €17 early and €23 later, KABUL à GoGo €11–17 plus a €2.50 fee, WAS. from €18.50 and EKKO's Friday club night €5.50 at the door.
18+ at most clubs, with ID. WAS. is 21+, some KABUL à GoGo nights are 21+, Hofman's dance nights have been 23+ and De Helling's PANN night is 25+.
Often not. BASIS, EKKO, KABUL à GoGo and WAS. are card only, and TivoliVredenburg is cashless. ACU is the exception: it asks for cash.
