The 8 best clubs in Maastricht

The 8 best clubs in Maastricht, ranked: Complex, Muziekgieterij, Cliniq and the dance cafés, with closing times, age limits, ticket prices and how to get home.

6 min read

The best clubs in Maastricht are few, and that shapes the list. The city has one large club, Complex, which holds up to 1,680 people and runs nights until 05:00. Around it sit a pop venue with club nights, Muziekgieterij, a Thursday-to-Saturday dance club, Cliniq, and a group of dance cafés where the furniture moves aside after 22:00. We include those cafés because they are where most dancing happens in the old centre.

This list ranks eight rooms by sound, crowd, door, late licence and value. Each entry gives the closing time, a price where one is published, and one honest reason to skip it. The basics: Complex is 18+ with ID and stops entry at 03:00, a Complex night with Michel de Hey cost €25 to €29, and most cafés close at 02:00 or 03:00.

How we picked

We ranked rooms on five things: sound, crowd, door, late licence and value. Sound means a room built for electronic or live music. Crowd means people who came for the night rather than for dinner. Door means you can tell in advance how you get in, by ticket, ID check or dress code. Late licence means a finish at 03:00 or later. Value compares a published price with what the night offers. Every venue here has a 2026 listing on its own site or on a tourist-board page, and the hours, prices and addresses come from those pages. Maastricht has few true clubs, so dance cafés are included and labelled. We do not sell tickets ourselves.

A pub-café on Wycker Brugstraat with a DJ and live programme. In October 2026 it listed BO Invites with DJ Tommy, billed as electro, dirty house, funky grooves and heavy bass, plus live sets on 23 and 30 October. It opens at 10:00 and closes at 02:00 on weeknights and 03:00 at the weekend. Skip it if you want a guaranteed table: there are no reservations.

6
A brown café that dances

In den Ouden Vogelstruys

Vrijthof & Markt, Pop, Party music, Brown café

A brown café at Vrijthof 15 that the city's tourist board calls the oldest café in the Netherlands. On weekend evenings the tables and chairs are cleared for dancing, and it closes at 03:00 from Friday to Sunday. Lonely Planet describes swords, medals and 1950s portraits on the walls. Skip it if you want a calm seat on a Saturday night.

Dance evenings in a small pub

Café de Pieter

A small artists' pub on Sint Pieterstraat, away from the bustle of the Vrijthof. Every Friday and Saturday night brings a dance evening with slightly different music each time, and there are regular live performances. It closes at 02:00 on those nights. Skip it if you want a big floor: the room is small.

Monday jazz, weekend DJs

Café Forum

A corner café in the Jeker Quarter, open since November 2010, with a weekly rhythm: Maastricht Jazz Club on Monday, DJs and live performances on Friday and Saturday, and a music film on Sunday. It ranks last only because the music is part of a café, not a dance floor. Skip it if you want to dance until 03:00.

Entry
Closes
Hours not confirmed
Age
Door
Walk-in
Worth knowing
Maastricht Jazz Club plays on Mondays, and Lonely Planet describes a trio after 22:00.
Watch out for
The printed closing times are ambiguous, so confirm the hour before a late visit.

Plan the night by area. Café Van Bommel and Cliniq are on the same street, Platielstraat, so you can change rooms without changing streets. In den Ouden Vogelstruys is on the Vrijthof, and Café de Pieter and Café Forum are on Sint Pieterstraat in the Jeker Quarter. Café Zondag is in Wyck on the east bank, Muziekgieterij is in the Sphinx quarter, and Complex is on the Griend, about ten minutes' walk from the station.

The cafés close at 02:00 or 03:00, so Complex is the one stop that runs on until 05:00. Getting home needs a plan: we found no night bus timetable, and the Friday-night Arriva train to Schiphol is not confirmed for 2026. Walk, or book a taxi. The national maximum tariff is €4.31 to start, plus €3.17 per km and €0.52 per minute.

Maastricht rewards a plan. Complex and Muziekgieterij publish their programmes weeks ahead, so choose the night by the line-up, and remember that carnival, Vastelaovend, runs from 7 to 9 February 2027.
